Here is a wonderful, fiery magenta-colored square cushion cut Red Emerald (beryl) gemstone.  The stone is very small, but beautiful and full of fire.

Kennecott's initial exploration of the Ruby-Violet Claims in 1994 yielded only 293 carats.  Reportedly, the largest stone faceted from their efforts was only seventeen points!  As of 1997, the average size for a Red Emerald gem was only 0.05 carat...and over 90% of ALL cut stones weighed 0.08 carat or less!  The typical shape was to form crystals into rounds, so square facets are fancy cuts in this variety.
